monica's interest focuses on the study of surface flux (water, carbon and energy) at various spatial and temporal scales using earth observation data from satellite, airborne, or field sensors.of particular interest to research includes- modeling the surface energy balance and evapotranspiration at regional scales using remote sensingdevelopment of new land degradation and disturbance indicators based on the surface energy changes- to assess the effects of drought on ecosystem function and resilience using time series trend analysesmonica obtained a master's in international agricultural development at the university of california, davis (2000) and a ph. d in remote sensing of the environment (2003) politecnica universidad de madrid (spain), where she also trained agricultural engineer. she was a post doctorate at the national research council in spain, university of copenhagen (denmark) and columbia university (usa) to develop eco hydrological indicators for the monitoring of ecosystem services or degradation in water limited regions such as the mediterranean, the african sahel or california.some of her research publications have been presented in nature geosciences, new scientist, and reuters.
