- Modeling overfladen energibalance og evapotranspiration på regionalt skalaer ved hjælp af remote sensing
- Udvikling af nye jordforringelse og forstyrrelser indikatorer baseret på overfladen energi ændringer
- Vurdere virkningerne af tørke på økosystemernes funktion og modstandsdygtighed ved hjælp tidsserieanalyser

Monica opnået en Master i International Agricultural Development ved University of California, Davis (2000) og en Ph.D i Remote Sensing af miljøet ( 2003) ved Universidad Politecnica de Madrid (Spanien) , hvor hun også er uddannet Agricultural Engineer. Hun var en postdoc ved den National Research Council i Spanien, Københavns Universitet (Danmark) og Columbia University (USA) at udvikle øko -hydrologiske indikatorer til overvågning af økosystemtjenester eller jordforringelse i vand begrænsede regioner som Mediterranean , den Afrikanske Sahel eller Californien.
